Due to malnutrition, 37% of children in Rwanda are lagging behind. The main cause of child malnutrition here is poverty, regional unavailability of crops outside the harvest period and low food self-sufficiency of families. Every day, 65 children die in Rwanda from chronic malnutrition. Help us change it! A goat herd will provide a sustainable source of livelihood for the poorest families, protect children from malnutrition, strengthen the food self-sufficiency of communities and prevent future food crises.

Food self-sufficiency

UNICEF supplies the poorest families, widows and orphans with pets as part of a “cattle bank“ project: goats and piglets. When the animals multiply enough for the families, the two young pieces are returned so that they can be used for another poor family. As a prevention of child malnutrition, we also supply resistant crops to ensure sustenance and train mothers on the principles of proper nutrition.

Czech aid in Rwanda

Rwanda is one of the countries that the Czech UNICEF has long supported. Thanks to the help of Czech donors, UNICEF has built drinking water sources and school canteens for the Mayange and Bukamba communities in Rwanda, provided alternative family care for 213 orphans from the Gitagata center, reintegrated 450 street children in the capital Kigali and supported the care of hundreds of other children in the Fidesco center. .

They said about the project

"Každý den naší mise do Rwandy byl nabitý zážitky a zajímavými projekty v terénu. Help really works here and the locals help each other. An “ordinary“ goat can thus mean the difference between living in poverty and a dignified life in which people rely on their own resources and abilities. The principle of cattle banks is not just a short-term patch for pain, but ensures a lasting solution, independence and respect for local conditions. “said Patrik Eliáš, hockey player and goodwill ambassador of UNICEF CR.
