Autumn 1974 in the mining town of Ashburn in the northwest of England. the last autumn of our childhood innocence.
As thirteen-year-olds, we loved autumn. Nights sparkling with stars or, conversely, covered in fog so thick it could be sliced. Scary stories about Halloween, burning effigies on Guy Fawkes Night, the vision of Christmas. When you' re thirteen, you experience all of this in a state of great excitement. That year, however, we were also gripped by fear; A killer began to rampage in Ashburn in the fall. Under the cover of darkness, in the thickest fog, someone was suddenly lurking, choosing our peers as their victims.
There are rumors of a killer ghost in practically every town. In our country, an ancient legend was connected to a coal mine and red clogs. And back then, in 1974, we were intensely wondering whether the crackling sound that occasionally sounded in the fog during that tragic time was somehow connected to this ghost.
Paul Finch (*1964) is one of the most prominent British authors of thrillers and horror films. In this imaginative autumn story, he plays out a thrilling game that will delight all fans of scary children' s adventures in the style of Dark Summer.
