Nothing has been right in Owen's life since his father died in prison, convicted of a crime Owen is sure he didn't commit. But Monroe, the school's IT guy, offers him a way to clear his father's name by letting him use the Animus – a device that lets users explore genetic memories buried in their own DNA. The experience, however, gives Owen more than he bargained for. During the simulation, he discovers the existence of an ancient and powerful relic long considered a myth – the Trident of Eden. Now two secret organisations, the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order, will stop at nothing to get their hands on the artefact. It soon becomes clear the only way for Owen to save himself is to find the Trident first.
Under Monroe's guidance, Owen and several other young people enter a memory they share through their DNA, finding themselves in the middle of the 1863 New York City Draft Riots. Owen and his companions will face difficult trials on the dangerous streets of New York, and their past experiences will have far-reaching consequences for the present.
