Thieves - DVD

Osamu is a casual labourer who supplements his income by shoplifting, a trade he is also teaching his son. They live together in a makeshift house on the outskirts of the city with other members of the household, forming a family that is peculiar in more ways than just their means of survival.
A little girl, playing alone in the cold on a balcony, disrupts their shoplifting routine. Osamu decides that taking a child neglected by her parents isn't a crime. His action leads to the uncovering of secrets within the family of thieves and challenges our very understanding of what a family is.

Kore-eda's film is a sensitive, multi-layered, and sophisticated drama about unconditional love and the dignity of the poor.
