The Norwegian film U – July 22 captures the massacre at the Workers' Youth League summer camp on a small island near Oslo in the summer of 2011.
Director Erik Poppe has turned this real-life tragedy, in which several dozen mostly young people lost their lives, into a drama filmed in real time without music or cuts. The camera relentlessly follows a young woman named Kaja as she tries to survive the senseless shooting while searching for her younger sister amidst the chaos and panic.

The film is based on real testimonies. The script draws from in-depth interviews with survivors and strives to faithfully capture the feelings of the young people who were on the island at the moment of the attack. It depicts the events from their perspective and pays tribute to their courage.
