Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), or "winter cherry" and "Indian ginseng", is one of the most important herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, dating back some 5,000 years. The combination of substances in an ideal ratio guarantees beneficial effects on both body and mind. Ashwagandha takes the form of a small shrub or herb with tiny green flowers and orange-red fruits. It is grown in areas of India and parts of Nepal where climatic conditions are ideal. For therapeutic use, the root of ashwagandha is used, which is dried and then ground into a powder. Our ashwagandha root powder is in BIO and RAW quality.
You knew, right?
Fresh ashwagandha root has a smell similar to horse sweat. Due to this, the name was derived from Sanskrit-ashwaganda: ashwa means horse and gandha means smell.
You can dissolve ashwagandha root powder in water. Because of its typically bitter taste, many people find it hard to swallow at first, so you can add it to juice or smoothies where the ashwagandha flavor is eliminated. Feel free to try adding a teaspoon of ashwagandha to the porridge as well, the resulting taste will not be affected and the prepared dish will have beneficial effects.
