How to Use a Dual-Head Stethoscope Correctly
To achieve maximum accuracy and sound clarity, it is important to follow the correct procedure for every examination. First, select the desired side of the chestpiece according to the frequency you want to listen to. The flat diaphragm is ideal for the high frequencies typical of the heart and lungs, while the hollow bell is excellent for transmitting low tones and deeper murmurs. You can easily switch the active side by simply rotating the chestpiece, which automatically closes the other side. Insert the eartips into your ears pointing forwards, so they follow the direction of your ear canal – this is the only way to ensure a perfect seal against ambient noise. Always place the chestpiece directly onto the patient's bare skin, applying slight pressure with the diaphragm and letting the bell rest very gently on the body. For an undisturbed listening experience, perform the examination in a quiet environment, and after each use, remember to wipe the chestpiece and eartips with a suitable disinfectant.
