Prokyber Shield ESP32-BUG-ETH

Prokyber Shield ESP32-BUG-ETH
The Prokyber Shield with ESP32-BUG-ETH expands development boards, supplementing the microcontroller's wireless capabilities with a robust and reliable wired network connection. The module integrates the tried-and-tested W5500 controller, which ensures stable data communication via the SPI interface and independently handles the TCP/IP stack. At the same time, it functions as an effective PoE shield thanks to the fitted DP1435-5V module, meaning it can power the connected board directly via an Ethernet cable. This combination is key for projects where a wireless connection is unreliable or where there is no power socket within reach. The module thus makes it possible to build a compact and self-sufficient ESP32 mini PC with advanced networking features for deployment in remote or industrial environments where reliability is paramount. This board is a powerful solution for rapid prototyping of network devices, such as various types of converters between wireless and wired protocols.
Key features of the Prokyber Shield ESP32-BUG-ETH mini PC
- The module integrates a W5500 Ethernet controller and a DP1435-5V PoE module, ensuring a reliable network connection and power via a single cable
- The Stemma QT connector allows for easy and quick expansion of functionality with additional sensors and modules without soldering
- M2 mounting holes
- Low profile
- Ideal for IoT gateways and industry
Ethernet controller and PoE functions
The core of this module is the W5500 Ethernet controller, which communicates with the host development board via an SPI interface. This chip independently handles the hardware TCP/IP stack, freeing up valuable computing resources of the main processor for application logic. The integrated DP1435-5V circuit implements Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality. This lets you power both the shield and the connected board with a single Ethernet cable from a PoE-compatible switch or injector. This eliminates the need for a separate power supply, simplifying installation and reducing the overall cabling in your project.
Usage and expansion options
The combination of the host board's wireless capabilities, such as the Esp32-C6-Bug, and wired Ethernet opens up a wide range of possibilities for developing network gateways and converters. A typical use case is creating devices that translate data between different standards, for example, Wi-Fi–Ethernet, Zigbee–Ethernet, or Thread–Ethernet. This is useful in IoT applications where different types of networks need to be interconnected. The Stemma QT connector makes it easy to connect additional sensors and modules. It provides standardised access to the I2C bus and enables rapid project expansion without soldering, which speeds up the prototyping and testing phase.
