Key features of the Seagate Expansion Desktop 28TB external drive
- Storage capacity of 28TB
- Platter-based hard drive inside
- Connects to your computer via USB 3.0
- No driver installation required for setup
- Works with Windows, macOS and ChromeOS
- Includes Rescue Data Recovery Services
Setting up the external drive
Setting up the drive is simple and does not require any software installation. Everything you need, including the power adapter and USB cable, is included in the package. You can transfer files using the tried-and-tested drag-and-drop method, simply by dragging them with your mouse from one storage location to another. After plugging the adapter into a power socket and connecting the drive to your computer, the operating system will automatically recognise it.
Transfer speed
For efficient data handling, this backup drive uses the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, also known as USB 3.0. This connection supports fast data transfers, which shortens the time needed to back up or copy large files, such as high-resolution videos. The Micro USB-B connector ensures a reliable connection. The drive is also backward compatible with older USB 2.0 ports, with the transfer speed adapting to the limits of that standard.
Data recovery and compatibility
The drive comes pre-formatted from the factory for immediate use with Windows operating systems. For full functionality on macOS platforms, for example with the Time Machine tool, or on ChromeOS devices, simply perform a quick reformat. The product also includes Rescue Data Recovery Services. This provides protection in the event of an unexpected incident, such as a mechanical drive failure, and helps reduce the risk of losing valuable files.
