Petzl Grigri+ Yellow
The Petzl Grigri+ Yellow belay device is designed for safely belaying both lead and second climbers on rock faces or indoor climbing walls. Its cam-assisted blocking mechanism makes it suitable for top-rope climbing too. The special ASSIST+ mode makes it easier to take in rope when top-rope belaying, which is particularly useful when teaching climbing. An ergonomic handle with an anti-panic function makes operation simple, helping to prevent the climber from being lowered too quickly. The handle, together with the cam mechanism, creates a 3:1 mechanical advantage, allowing you to smoothly control the lowering speed with less effort. Clear pictograms on the outside of the belay device and on the cam itself show how to correctly install the rope. Taking in slack, paying out rope and catching a fall are all done using the standard technique for Petzl belay devices, but you must always keep a firm grip on the free end of the rope. The Petzl Grigri+ Yellow is compatible with single ropes from 8.5–11mm in diameter. The belay device has an aluminium body, while the plastic parts, including the handle, are made from recycled polyamide. The device weighs 200g.

Safe use of the Petzl Grigri+ Yellow belay device
The belay device's handle is equipped with an anti-panic function, which increases safety when lowering a climber and makes it easier to learn. If the user pulls the handle too hard, the anti-panic function activates, the handle disengages and the rope automatically locks. To unlock it again, you need to return the handle to its starting position. A button lets you switch the belay device to ASSIST+ mode. In its normal setting, it works like a classic GRIGRI, while in ASSIST+ mode, the cam lifts and continuously blocks the rope. This makes it easy to take in rope, while paying out rope is only possible using the handle. The ASSIST+ mode is especially practical for top-rope belaying and is also useful for beginners or children's climbing groups.
