The Synology DS925+ network-attached storage serves to centralise, back up and share digital data in both home and business environments. The tower design, weighing 2.26kg, accommodates up to four hard drives or SSDs, with the option for further capacity expansion. The device uses the DiskStation Manager operating system, which offers file management tools and automatic synchronisation between different platforms. The system operates at a noise level of 20.5dB(A) and its power consumption during operation is 37.91W, dropping to 12.33W in standby mode.
The AMD Ryzen V1500B processor with a frequency of 2.2GHz manages all operations and calculations in the system. The standard configuration includes 4GB of DDR4 RAM, which can be expanded up to a total of 32GB using two slots if needed. Hardware encryption protects stored data from unauthorised access without a significant drop in transfer speed.
Two built-in 2.5GbE LAN network ports provide a connection to the local network. Sequential read speeds reach up to 522MB/s and sequential write speeds reach up to 565MB/s, ensuring smooth transfer of large data volumes. The network ports support link aggregation to increase throughput or to provide a backup connection if one of the lines fails.
Four main bays support both 3.5" SATA hard drives and 2.5" SATA SSDs with a hot-swap function for a total capacity of up to 96TB. Two integrated slots for M.2 NVMe SSDs are used to create a fast cache or separate storage pools. With the DX525 expansion unit, the total number of drive bays can be increased to nine. This raises the total gross capacity to 216TB when using 24TB drives with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, or JBOD arrays.
The DSM system includes integrated applications for automated backups of computers, physical servers, and cloud services like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. The Snapshot Replication feature creates immutable snapshots of shared folders for protection against ransomware and accidental deletion. Data can be synchronised with public cloud storage or other Synology servers.
The Surveillance Station application turns the device into a monitoring centre with support for over 8700 IP camera models. The system can simultaneously record video from up to 40 cameras at 1080p resolution. Users receive two free licences as standard, and recordings can be saved concurrently to local storage and the secure cloud.
The Synology Drive service provides access to files from computers, mobile phones, and web browsers. The integrated suite is used for collaborative real-time editing of documents and spreadsheets directly within the private cloud environment. The system supports network protocols including SMB and FTP for integration into existing infrastructure.
