The Synology RS1221RP+ serves as a 2U rackmount network storage solution designed for installation in rack cabinets. The system provides a space for storing and centrally managing company data. Its 407.5mm depth design makes it easy to install in two-post or shallow rack chassis, saving space in your server cabinet. A 2.2GHz quad-core processor powers the device to handle demanding workloads. In its basic configuration, the system accommodates eight hard drives, with the option to expand capacity to up to twelve bays.

High performance
The system is powered by a 64-bit quad-core AMD Ryzen V1500B processor with a frequency of 2.2GHz. The basic hardware configuration includes 4GB of DDR4 ECC SODIMM RAM in a single occupied slot. Users can further expand the memory up to 32GB using the two built-in memory slots. The sequential read speed is 2300MB/s and the sequential data write speed is 1147MB/s.
Reliable power supply
The system includes a redundant 350W power supply that operates with an input voltage of 100–240V AC at a frequency of 50/60Hz. Two independent power circuits protect the system from a power failure in one power line. The backup power supply keeps the device running even in the event of a sudden failure of the primary power. This prevents unexpected downtime and the loss of work-in-progress data. The device also supports power recovery after an outage and scheduled power on or off.
Compact design for shallow cabinets
The 2U format chassis has a depth of only 407.5mm, including the redundant power supply. These dimensions make it easy to install in two-post or shallow rack cabinets. The compact design saves space in the server cabinet and helps with cable management. The system is cooled by two 80×80mm fans with a quiet mode setting.
Advanced data protection
The Btrfs file system offers advanced features to prevent stored data corruption. Users can schedule point-in-time snapshots with minimal impact on performance. ECC memory detects and corrects single-bit errors in real time. The integrated Hyper Backup tool is used for backing up to the cloud or other external storage.
Expansion options and virtualisation support
The basic configuration offers eight bays for SATA hard drives. Users can further increase the capacity by connecting an RX418 expansion unit via the integrated eSATA port. This increases the number of drive bays to a total of twelve. An available PCIe Gen3 ×8 slot can also be used to install 10GbE network cards or SSD cache adapters. The device fully cooperates with VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V platforms. The integrated Virtual Machine Manager application runs various operating systems in isolated environments. Administrators can clone and migrate virtual machines according to the current needs of the infrastructure.
