WD 2.5" My Passport Ultra for Mac 4TB Silver
The WD My Passport Ultra for Mac external drive is designed to expand storage and transfer data on devices running macOS. Its 4TB capacity can hold large files, such as video projects, photo libraries or Time Machine backups. The drive is pre-formatted for macOS 11 and higher, so it works right out of the box. Inside is a 2.5" hard drive housed in a durable metal case that protects the mechanism from damage. It connects to your computer via a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface with a theoretical throughput of 5Gbps.

Interface
Key features of the WD My Passport Ultra 4TB for Mac external drive, silver
- 4TB storage capacity
- Uses a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface with a USB-C connector
- 256-bit AES hardware encryption for data protection
- Acronis True Image software for backups
- Durable metal casing
- Compatible with macOS 11 and later
- Included HFS+ driver maintains compatibility with Windows 10+
Connect via USB-C and USB-A
The drive communicates with your computer via a USB-C connector and the included cable. For connecting to older devices, the package also includes a USB-A adapter, which maintains compatibility across different generations of Mac computers. Power is drawn directly from the USB port, so the drive does not require an external power adapter.
Drive compatibility
Although the drive is ready for the Apple ecosystem, its use is not limited to macOS. After downloading and installing the HFS+ driver from the manufacturer's website, you can also use it on Windows 10+ without formatting. This process preserves all existing data on the drive, supporting users who switch between both operating systems.
Encryption and backup with Acronis True Image
Activating password protection enables the integrated hardware encryption, which operates independently of your computer's performance and does not affect transfer speeds. All data on the drive is then protected against unauthorised access by the 256-bit AES standard. The included Acronis True Image for Western Digital software is used to set up automatic backups and integrates protection against ransomware.
