Key features of the LaCie 1big Dock Thunderbolt 3 8TB external drive
- 8TB storage capacity
- Powered by an internal Seagate IronWolf Pro hard drive
- Two Thunderbolt 3 ports
- Integrated card readers for SD and CF formats
- DisplayPort 1.4 output supports monitors up to 8K resolution
- Aluminium housing complemented by active cooling
The heart of the system
At the core of the storage is a Seagate IronWolf Pro enterprise-class hard drive with a speed of 7200 rpm. The drive's design handles a high annual workload, continuous operation, and supports consistent performance when working with large files. This makes processing 4K video footage or RAW photos key to a smooth workflow.
Centralise with a single cable on the LaCie 1big Dock external drive
The docking station concept solves the problem of limited ports on modern laptops. Using a Thunderbolt 3 cable, you can connect not only the drive itself to your computer, but also monitors, USB devices, and memory cards, while the station powers the connected laptop with up to 70W. This eliminates the need for a separate power adaptor and keeps your desk clutter-free.
Direct data import from memory cards
The front of the device features SD and CF memory card slots, which speed up the backup process both in the field and in the studio. These integrated readers are used for directly copying files from cameras, drones, and DSLRs without needing to find external adaptors. In addition, a front USB 3.0 port expands connectivity for connecting shuttle drives, charging your phone, or other USB peripherals.
Connect monitors via the LaCie 1big Dock with Thunderbolt 3
The DisplayPort 1.4 output lets you connect professional high-resolution monitors to the docking station. This means the Thunderbolt 3 external drive also functions as a graphics hub. The system supports 4K display at a 120Hz refresh rate or 8K at 60Hz. Such parameters are essential for detailed colour work, smooth video editing, and precise graphics post-production.
Expandability and Thunderbolt 3 daisy-chaining
Two Thunderbolt 3 ports offer the option of serial connection, known as a daisy chain. This allows you to connect up to six additional devices in a row to a single port on your computer. In this way, you can gradually expand the total storage capacity or connect additional Thunderbolt peripherals without any loss of speed. The second port remains free for connecting an end device, such as a monitor.
Reliable operation
The solid aluminium casing acts as a large heat sink, efficiently dissipating heat from the internal drive. This passive system is complemented by an active, thermo-regulated fan. Its speed adapts to the current load, which maintains the drive's optimal operating temperature without unnecessary noise. Reliable cooling is essential for maintaining the full performance of the IronWolf Pro drive during continuous operations, such as video editing or backing up large volumes of data.
Easy maintenance and drive replacement
The LaCie 1big Dock is designed for long-term deployment and easy maintenance. The device includes a removable drawer that provides access to the internal Seagate IronWolf Pro hard drive. If you need to upgrade the capacity or replace the drive after years of use, you can perform the operation yourself without having to send the entire device in for service. This modularity extends the life cycle of the docking station.
Intelligent laptop power with the LaCie 1big Dock
The docking station's design keeps your laptop charged even while you work. It provides up to 60W of power directly through the Thunderbolt 3 cable. If you also connect your laptop's power adaptor to the dock, the system will offer pass-through power of up to 70W. When daisy-chaining other USB-C devices, up to 30W of power is available, which keeps your tech running.
