Jo Nesbo, král severské krimi, je současný norský spisovatel a hudebník. Za své romány získal řadu literárních ocenění, jeho knihy byly přeloženy do 35 jazyků a vyšly ve 140 zemích.
Narodil se do rodiny knihovnice a vášnivého čtenáře. Od dětství jej kromě fotbalu zajímala také hra na kytaru a rocková hudba. Společně s mladším bratrem založili kapelu Di Derre a dobyli norskou rockovou scénu s rekordním počtem prodaných alb a až 180 odehranými koncerty ročně.
Psaní se začal naplno věnovat až v roce 1997, kdy mu vyšel první detektivní román Netopýr (Flaggermusmannen), v němž poprvé představil postavu velmi osobitého a svérázného kriminalisty Harryho Hola. Kniha okamžitě sklidila obrovský úspěch a její autor za ni obdržel cenu Rivertonprisen za nejlepší literární počin s kriminální tematikou.
Ohlas vzbudily také další knihy ze série s detektivem Harrym Holem - Švábi (Kakerlakkene), Červenka (Rodstrupe), Nemesis (Sorgenfri), Pentagram (Marekors), Spasitel (Frelseren), Sněhulák (Snomannen), Levhart (Panserhjerte), Přízrak (Gjenferd) a Policie (2013).
Mladší čtenáře si získal humornou sérií knih s hlavním hrdinou doktorem Proktorem: Doktor Proktor a prdící prášek (2007). Originálně a vtipně ilustrované příběhy jsou plné humoru, fantazie a bláznivých situací, které zaujaly děti a mládež po celém světě.
