The ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Dark Hero motherboard provides the foundation for powerful PC builds based on the AMD AM5 platform. This ATX gaming motherboard with an AMD X870E chipset supports AMD Ryzen processors and uses DDR5 RAM with a capacity of up to 256GB. It integrates modern interfaces for high performance, including two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and five M.2 SSD slots. The board is designed for overclocking and demanding gaming and professional workloads, supported by a robust power delivery system and advanced cooling. Connectivity is rounded out by dual LAN and Wi-Fi 7 wireless.
A digitally controlled power stage delivers stable voltage to the processor for demanding operations and overclocking. It consists of a 20+2+2 power phase configuration with massive VRM heatsinks that dissipate heat. Power is supplied by one 24-pin ATX, two 8-pin CPU connectors, and one 8-pin PCIe connector. Four slots support up to 256GB of DDR5 RAM and overclocking modules to frequencies up to 9600+ MT/s (depending on the processor used).
The board offers two PCIe 5.0 ×16 slots for graphics cards and other expansion cards. For high-speed storage, it provides a total of five M.2 slots, two of which communicate via the PCIe 5.0 ×4 interface. Advanced heatsinks, including a 3D VC M.2, help maintain optimal SSD temperatures. These are complemented by four SATA III ports with RAID support. The board integrates dual LAN connectivity with speeds of 10Gb/s and 5Gb/s. A Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 module handles wireless communication. The rear panel includes two 40Gb/s USB4 ports and a set of 10Gb/s USB ports in both Type-A and Type-C. Internal connectors include a header for a front USB 20Gb/s port with up to 60W power delivery.
ASUS EZ DIY features simplify system assembly and management. These include the M.2 Q-Latch mechanism for screwless SSD installation and the PCIe Slot Q-Release button. For quick recovery, there are BIOS FlashBack and Clear CMOS buttons. Status diagnostics are made easy by the Q-LED system and the Q-Code status display. Sound is handled by the ROG SupremeFX ALC4082 codec, which is complemented by an ESS ES9219 QUAD DAC for a clean audio output.
