Sudanese hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) in whole flower or cut form is popular for its intense, deep red colour and distinctly sour taste, reminiscent of cranberries. Hibiscus infusion, known as Karkade, is a traditional drink in Africa and the Middle East, which is drunk hot and chilled as a refreshing lemonade. This tea is rich in vitamins and antioxidants and is often used as a natural colouring and flavouring ingredient in herbal blends.
Ingredients
Hibiscus Sudanese (Hibiscus sabdariffa) 100%.
Recommended dosage
Drink to taste, hot or cold. It has a mild laxative effect and in larger quantities can lower blood pressure.
Preparation
Pour approximately 10 g over 0.5 litres of boiling water (95 °C), let stand for 4 minutes and strain.
Storage
Store in a dry place at a temperature below 25°C.
