He recorded its eleven songs with producer Eric Corne at the Los Angeles studio of former The Doors guitarist, Robby Krieger. He was backed by his band, featuring Johnny Griparic on bass, Teddy Andreadis on keyboards, and Michael Leasure on drums. Further guests on "Ordinary Madness" include Trout's son Jon, singer Teeny Tucker, Anthony Grisham (guitar), Skip Edwards (steel guitar), and Drake Shining (keyboards). The song "Wanna Dance" offered the first taste of the new album.

Hooker's career truly took off in 1949 with the release of "Boogie Chillen". The single shot to number one on the rhythm and blues charts and sold a million copies. His blend of vocals and language, combined with infectious rhythms, perfectly captured the taste of African-American record buyers. Added to this was his electrically amplified guitar, with which he created a new, trend-setting sound. During this period, Hooker mostly performed solo. He was occasionally accompanied by musicians such as Eddie Burns, Boogie Woogie Red, and Eddie Kirkland.
