RODE NT55 Single

The NT55 is a versatile small-diaphragm condenser microphone designed for critical recording applications. Featuring a 1/2-inch gold-sputtered cardioid condenser capsule, it delivers a smooth, balanced sound with very low self-noise. For added flexibility, it includes a three-position pad (0, -10dB, -20dB) and a three-stage high-pass filter (flat, 75Hz, 150Hz), and comes supplied with an interchangeable NT45-O omnidirectional capsule. Its exceptionally accurate cardioid polar pattern and wide frequency response make the NT55 ideal for recording everything from acoustic instruments to drum overheads and cymbals, to live performances and on-location dialogue.

PrincipleMicrophone Principle

A dynamic microphone is suitable for open performances, live broadcasting, music production, etc. It uses a magnet and a moving coil to capture sound.
A condenser microphone is mainly used for studio purposes. It has higher sensitivity and lower noise. It must be powered separately.

FrequencyFrequency Range

The frequency range indicates the span of frequencies that the microphone records. The wider the range, the more sounds it can capture.
Low frequencies (e.g. 20–200Hz): Bass, the lowest tones of instruments (double bass, kick drum) and male voices.
Mid frequencies (e.g. 200–3,000Hz): The body of instruments, the fundamental of the voice, where the ear is most sensitive, important for speech intelligibility.
High frequencies (e.g. 3,000–14,000Hz): Treble, details, sibilance and the "shine" of the sound.
Air band (above 14,000Hz): Gives recordings a feeling of expensive, super high-quality sound and space.

SensitivitySensitivity

Microphone sensitivity is the ratio of output voltage to acoustic pressure. It expresses how loud a signal the microphone produces at a given acoustic pressure; a higher sensitivity means a stronger voltage and is suitable for quiet studios, while a lower sensitivity is better for noisy environments as it is less likely to unnecessarily amplify ambient noise.
