Chicory root syrup is an exception to other syrups in many ways. It is produced using a gentle method from the chicory root and has a pleasantly sweet taste and thick consistency.

Chicory root syrup contains only 6% sugar, a high proportion of fibre and a low glycaemic index - so it does not cause a sharp rise in blood sugar after consumption, as is the case with regular sucrose. The high content of prebiotic fibre (inulin) benefits the digestive system. Inulin is not absorbed in the small intestine but travels to the large intestine where it serves as a prebiotic - food for beneficial bacteria. A healthy digestive tract is associated with many other health benefits and optimal absorption of nutrients from food. Enzymatic hydrolysis ensures consistent high quality and also a smoother consistency compared to conventional roasting.
