"I was born when I was nine years, ten months and seven days old," begins the story of Eliška, the heroine of Reconstruction. She lives her childhood in a dark villa with a reclusive aunt and no one cares about her fate. Or so it seems, judging by the cautious reactions of everyone around.
Eliska was born of murder. Her mother killed her younger brother and then herself. No suicide note was found, and those who saw the mother that tragic day noticed nothing striking. Eliška grows up in a ten-year void, and when she grows up, she decides to find answers to increasingly insistent questions. What actually happened? Why did my mother do it? And why didn't she take her with her...
In her third novel, the successful novelist Viktoria Hanišová writes about the attraction of empty places, about the captivation of falling into darkness. Sometimes all it takes is a little, like trying to find a balance in life - and suddenly one is swinging over the precipice.

Viktoria Hanišová
(born. 1980) comes from Prague and studied English and German at Charles University. She is a translator and foreign language teacher. She made her debut as a writer in 2015 with the well-received novel Anežka about the dysfunctional relationship between a mother and her adopted daughter, about hidden racism and stereotypes. This was followed in 2018 by The Mushroom Girl, a novel about childhood trauma and domestic violence. The novel Reconstruction completes a loose trilogy of novels that link the theme of motherhood.

Marie Štípková
From the age of thirteen she began attending a drama club in her native Český Těšín and soon experienced the feelings of an eléoness on the boards of the local theatre. In Prague, she entered both the DAMU and the law school at the same time, but after the first semester she left the world of paragraphs. While studying acting, she performed in graduate productions of the senior class and won the Jiří Adamíra Award and the Valter Taub Award. After graduation she collaborated with e.g. with the Minor Children's Theatre and the New Stage of the National Theatre, in 2013-2016 she was engaged at the Municipal Theatre in Kladno (for the role of Gesha Gottfried in Fassbinder's Bremen Freedom she won the 2015 Theatre Critics' Award in the category of female performance and a wider nomination for the 2015 Thalia Award). Since 2014, he has performed in the Summer Shakespeare Festival in the comedy Much Ado About Nothing. For the last three seasons she has been a member of the Švandov Theatre ensemble, but she has also been a guest on other stages. She made her debut in front of the camera in Catch the Doctor (2007) and also starred in Marhoul's big screen film The Painted Bird (2019).
