In a distant world called Hyperion, lying on the very edge of the Hegemony and its laws, a priest, a soldier, a poet, a detective, a consul and a scholar with an infant land in the company of a Templar treeship's star captain. This unlikely group of pilgrims sets off for the mysterious Time Tombs to face the bloody gaze of the Lord of Pain's ruby eyes and its hundreds of deadly blades. Each member of the expedition is driven by their own hidden motivations, which surface as they take turns telling each other their stories. With them, the true nature and immense significance of their journey is slowly revealed, a journey that could result in an interstellar war with billions of human lives at stake. A confusing conflict between the empire's FORCE, hordes of barbaric Ousters and feuding factions of artificial intelligences is about to break out – and the setting for the first clashes is to be this inhospitable planet, home of the legendary Shrike…
The first book in the Hyperion Cantos takes place in the distant future, when humanity is colonising a universe inhabited by alien races. This now classic work of world science fiction was ingeniously structured by the author in the manner of The Canterbury Tales, in order to introduce the distinctive heroes and their unique world with the contribution of half a dozen variously told stories.

Let's be straight: this book is a masterpiece!
